I am Traveling to Pennsylvania June 23rd - 25th and want to site see Puerto Rico for a few days but Im coming from the caribbean.|||Yahoo fare chaser is the best I have found, but we are flying to san Juan April 28th and found flying out of Newark is cheapest, 99 one way!!

|||Always check the internet first.|||First, check the Internet Travel sites, Orbitz, Expedia, or Travelocity. They should give you fares ordered by price. If you can make it to New York, check with Jet Blue, they have extremely cheap flights if you are willing to travel late at night. Lastly, try those on-demand price (you name the price, they name the flight if available) sites like Priceline.
I would like to know if the centurion card is also available or have been issue in Puerto Rico, Not the black card issued from banks like the one from banco popular but the centurion issued by american express.|||Although most stores in Puerto Rico would accept any card, including American Express, you might not get the full range of benefits from the Centurion Card.
In 1898, US troops invaded the island of Puerto Rico, took over the Spanish government and established a military regimen. Sounds familiar? 108 years after that, we are a US territory, technicaly a colony. We are US citizens and share some constitutional rights. 1.Puerto Rico along with Cuba remained the last autonomous regions of Spain until 1898
2. Puerto Rico was invaded by the US in July 1898, US naval ship bombed San Juan and many civilians died.
3.US imposed a military colony regime that lasted almost 50 years, also imposed a statutory citizenship.
4. The nationalist revolts of the 30's and 40's convinced the US that Puerto Rico was never going to be assimilated like Hawaii did, that annexation was impossible due to the strong national identity of Puerto Ricans and the fact that Puerto Ricans were fighting the colonial regime since the invasion.
5. In July 25 1952 Puerto Rico finally achieves a self governing status. A constitution is voted and established. The official name of the government will be : Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico ( translation: Puerto Rican Free Associated State) (This state was inspired by the Irish Free State before Ireland became a full sovereign state in 1948)
6. Puerto Rico's self government was recognized by the United Nations in 1953.
Puerto Rico is a nation , it is a latin american country, no doubt about it. it has a common language and history with Cuba and the rest of Latin America and a culture of it's very own that makes puerto ricans unique. Puerto Rico has an olympic team and competes in all international events as a nation. Puerto Rico has won many international events including 4 times the crown of Miss Universe. A puerto rican movie was nominated for an Oscar as Best Foreign Film in 1989 for "Lo que le paso a Santiago".
Puerto Rico's current political status is that of a self governing commonwealth associated with the US (this status does not make it part of the US).This current status is not permanent and it's self determination is recognized by the United Nations. This status has helped puerto ricans enjoy some benefits while the US has had 2 military bases, and protection of US commercial interests which makes Puerto Rico an important export market for US products.|||Don't want to know anything about it. Now, what is your point? Your question neglects to state all the facts, like the fact that it was ceded to the US as part of a treaty agreement with Spain.
As far as I know, relations between the two are pretty good.|||We know that in your last referendum you refused stateship and Independence, preferring to remain a territory. We know that the mezzanine in the House is closed because of attacks by Puerto Rican malcontents.
We know that in the US you and your children can avail yourself of Affirmative Action advantages over US citizens.
I find it interesting however that you trace the history of your island back only to the Spanish rule. The history of Puerto Rico is much older than that.|||I guess I'm not an "average" American since DH and his family grew up in Guanica, where some of the American troops landed. You, apparently, are an independista. DH and his family, including the ones still on the island, are adamantly opposed to your philosophy. It would be tragic on so many levels for Puerto Rico if it were to become independent. However, I would be more than happy to see it happen. Unfortunately for you and I, every time the citizens of the island are asked to vote for independence, they overwhelmingly vote "no." Perhaps they don't want to become a state because they don't want to pay federal taxes. Can't have the rights without the responsibilities. I was appalled as was my husband's family whenthe last governor removed all American flags from all government offices, including federal. In 1898, America defeated Spain in the Spanish American War, with America defeating Spanish troops and fleets in Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Phillipines. Under the negotiated peace treaty, Spain gave America control of Phillipines, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
America established a provinicial government in Puerto Rico, and PR eventually became an organized territory. As such, its citizens became American citizens, with the same rights and responsibilities of all US citizens (protected by US military, pay US taxes, subject to be drafted, etc). However Puerto Rican athletes do not compete as members of the US team at Olympic games - Puerto Rico fields its own team, for whatever reason (could never understand why PR gets its own team but DC does not).

The US citizenship of puerto ricans is a second class citizenship that can be revoked by a congress law since PR association with the US is not a permanent one. That is why PR is not part of the US -do not vote, do not pay federal taxes,etc.. -, it is simple.

Many do not know about this facts.|||Judging from the answers received, I would say very little is known and what little is said is mostly biased and racist. The relationship is very complicated because Puerto Rico had achieved a higher degree of autonomy under Spain and Puerto Ricans truly are a different People with Spanish as their first language a very different perspective of life. I'm taking a week-long cruise on Royal Caribbean to Puerto Rico and I've never been on a cruise so I'm not really sure what to expect.
What were your experiences with Royal Caribbean?
What are the prices like for food on board? Are any meals included in price? Are the drinks (alcoholic, of course) expensive or cheap? Also, if you have any other suggestions or tips that would be great! |||I'm Puertorican, and I can tell you about cruises, I've been on more than 10 cruise ships, and they are great!. Royal Caribbean is not the best cruise line but its sure one of the best out there, they'll take good care of you. The best part of a cruise ship is the food, so make sure you starve before you get in to one, because you will gain at least 15 lbs, the food is free everywhere, except on the cruise ship's exclusive restaurants, but on the ticket you will be granted "free" meals on the cruise ship's main restaurant (the really big one) where you will be assigned a permanent table with people you don't know, so pray they are fun, they will be your dinner companions for the entire stay; so if you are not into that kind of dynamics, you will have to pay some extra to get into a restaurant where you won't have to deal with that. But there's tons of free food everywhere at ALL TIMES, its an all you can eat routine, there's the top deck buffets, where most people go to get their breakfasts and lunches, and some of the cruises have Johnny Rockets that are free. Now for the drinks, they are not free, you'll have to pay for sodas and alcohol, some offer drink packages before you get on board. Now, there's a lot to do on the cruise ship, tons of activities, out on the deck, mini golf (if its a new cruise), ice skating, movie cinema, theater, arcade, spa, gym. The pool is salty, so its sea water, there's bingo games (good money), CASINO, there's shows every night, dancers, magic shows, shopping, dance clubs. Well, and of course you get to go to different places with a moving hotel, there's tours that you have to pay extra, but they are really expensive, sometimes hiring a taxi cab is way cheaper and far more adventurous. Most of the islands you'll visit are mostly either jewelry or the beach, it all depends on what you're looking for, don't expect a city, the small islands are very small, and basically most of them just offer natural sightseeing, they are pretty much the same, but the beaches are to die for!. Now PR is quite different from the small islands, we are one of the most crowded places on Earth, and have more roads and concrete per/sq mile than any other country in the Caribbean, you'll need more than a day to see PR, its pretty crazy, and there's tons to do in here, we have the beaches, Old San Juan is great, but its not everything, its more like a historical site, but we have great shopping (Plaza Las Americas) and modern San Juan is a vibrant city with lots of activities and nightlife. Well, thats not all but I hope I gave you a little insight of what to expect. But do it, you won't regret it.|||I took a cruise on Royal Carribean. The ship was called Monarch of the Seas

you get a card and um yeah|||i have many times my dad is a crazy photagrapher he goes all round the world and i gotta go with him......UGHLEZZZZ|||I've been on two Royal Caribbean cruises. All the meals are included, beside a few restraunts (like a couple of them you have to pay for). I'm not sure about the alcoholic beverages.. I know they give you free coffee, juices and water.

You'll enjoy it! :)|||i went on a royal caribbean cruise with my family to cozumel, jamacia, and the grand cayman, and it was amazing. all the food is included, and is AMAZING, but alcohol isnt included. i'm not sure about the prices because i cant drink, but i dont think it was really really expensive to have a drink with your dinner. the bedrooms and bathrooms are pretty small, unless you get a suite, but it shouldnt be too bad with just a couple people. we survived in a room with a queen bed and bunkbeds and a pullout couch with 5 people. and really, you probably won't be in the room too much as there is a TON of stuff to do on board. you'll have a lot of fun!|||Ive never been sorry but any food is elegant or at least thats what my mom told me |||i have been on a royal caribbean cruise it was so much fun! i hear PR is beautiful but i went to the bahamas. drinks are about 7.50 on the island and you cant take any alcohol back on the ship:( food is included in your ticket however the drinks are not. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/allaboutcr鈥?/a>|||I have been on Royal Caribbean three times and my experience with them has been extrodinary. They are the best cruise line, in my opinion. The drinks aren't too cheap, about $5-$7 each, but if your young and beautiful like me then you will find that you get a lot of free drinks ;) I had a bartender that would bring me a free drink everytime he say me, no matter where I was or what time of day it was.
San Juan is a nice island. If your|||I have never been on a Royal Caribbean cruise but my wife and I have been on 6-7 cruises over the last 10 years. Been to Puerto Rico several times. Do not miss spending some time in Old San Juan. Tour the old fort and enjoy the quaint old shops. Do not choose the fancy gourmet looking eating places but instead look for where the locals eat. It may not look fancy but our experience is these small places have the best food on the island. Enjoy your cruise!
I am leaving for Puerto Rico this Saturday. The weather report says the entire time I am there and I know it's hurricane season. So is taking a pair of wellies a good idea? And is it better to bring a lot of shorts or a lot of jeans?|||Hurricane season doesnt start til June 1st & even then its unusual to get any hurricanes until later. There will probably be rain, but I doubt it will rain the whole time.You don't need the rain boots, it is warm so people normally dont mind getting their feet wet. Sneakers might be better. Also it will be hot, so shorts are good. But jeans & nice pants(if you go anywhere) are good for the evening when its a little cooler & mosquitoes come out, so bring a few also|||puerto rico its mostly sunny and hot humidity days in the summer. cool and breeze in the spring.
hurricane season over here its around august, september and november. the summer its considered hurricane season, but puerto rico summers are normally very hot and good weather for the beach.
i recommend summer comfy clothes and not rainy clothes, rain boots over here are no good, unless u want to go to el yunque, but otherwise u rain boots are not necessary. i suggest sandals, flip flops for the beach and good sport walking snickers/tennis shoes for walking distance.|||I would not say silly just not necessary. 2 jeans,t-shirts,shorts, slippers, sneakers,sun block (about 50 spf.). Use lots of aloe lotion, sold at local Walgreens. Lots of cotton shorts and shirts. Try some of the sandwiches in some local bakery, they are awesome.El Cubano, especially . Instead of wellies bring a good pair of beach slippers, the ones that close your foot in. Don`t worry about anything, hurricanes are still far off. Have a good time.|||The thing is... it might rain, but showers are usually very short.. you might look a bit silly in wellies with a clear blue sky.
Plus they weight a ton... better off just sticking to a good pair of tennis shoes made of materials that dry quickly.
You're also better off bringing more shorts than jeans since even when it does rain it's hot. Bring some jeans for going out at night or where more modest attire is required (church)|||If you think you will need them, just bring them, it doesn hurt. But many people here prefer sandals. Both shorts and jeans is what almost everybody here wears. Except of course, for nice restaurants or going out to a nice place at night. Enjoy your trip!|||It's a good idea to bring all the rain protection you want, I used to wear a raincoat whenever it was pouring, and rain boots too, so there, now you know that you won't be the first nor the last..LOL Have Fun|||Although Hurracaine season starts in June ussually we see the first by August. We have rain events (of different intensity) through the year, but we do not use rain boots. The only rubber boots you may see here are those for construction workers while doing certain tasks.|||That is very, very silly and everyone will laugh at you, LOL.

I'd say bring shorts, and capris, jeans might be too hot but idk it just depends.|||Leave the boots at home. Take a lot of shorts but do bring jeans they're good for anything like going to the store, clubing or just relief from the mosquitos.|||Nobody use rain boots in PR but you can bring them if you want. It's going to be hot though.
