According to the U.S. Council for Puerto Rican Statehood, 57% percent of Puerto Ricans want statehood. So that means on the next plebiscite that statehood will probably win. And that means Puerto Rico will become the 51st state of the Union(pendding congress approves them, which they have no reason not to). So what my question is, when is the next plebiscite? And what is the process of one being granted.|||The current proposal being discussed in the Congress is the HR 2499 (http://pierluisi.house.gov/05-15-09-STAT鈥?/a> it has not a specific date for the next plebiscite. If approved in the House and later in the Senate; and then signed as law by the President the next plebiscite would be during 2010.|||As far as I have read, it will be this year, but due to complexity, some say next year. I believe this year because the UN wants this solved ASAP. November of this year is the vote.|||Short, since when has the US cared about anything the UN thinks or says?|||hmm i didnt know that, coool|||soon i hope. we dont have them often enough.
