Are there places to camp on Culebra and Vieques? I'm going on a weeks vacation to Puerto Rico and I want to spend half of it camping and the other half in a nice hotel. Where are some of the best camping areas both on and off the beach?|||Hi, I live here and I love to camp. So both Culebra and Vieques have campgrounds. At Flamenco beach (discovery channels second best beach in the world!) in Culebra there are great camping facilities right on the beach. There are bbq pits, showers and kiosks selling supplies and local foods. The taxi from the ferry dock is cheap and fast. Depending on the time of the year this place is CROWDED. Easter week is impossible and the summer is pretty crowded if you can even manage to get on the ferry. http://www.islaculebra.com/puerto-rico/c鈥?/a>

Vieques has Sun Bay, but it's not even close to being as good of a campground as Culebra but you have the offset of the great hiking to other beaches close by and the malecon in Esperanza with it's great restaurants. Also when in Vieques you can go see the Biobay which is an experience that you don't want to miss. Here is a link to a great info site on Vieques and a video of the camping there. Compania Parque Nacionales runs most of the best campgrounds in Puerto RIco here is a link to a list of there campgrounds. It's in Spanish but it's not that hard to figure out. The ones I've been to and love are Cerro Gordo, Punta Guillarte, Monte Del Estado (mountains not beach), and Seven Seas. http://www.parquesnacionalespr.com/seven鈥?/a>

Now away from the beach the best camping in PR is Torro Negrro (I must misspell the last word or YA won't let me put it) It's in the highest mountains of PR and it has a clean river running through it, fantastic hiking, panoramic views, waterfalls and the temp doesn't go above 85. It has clean facilities and the people are nice and very helpful.

If you have any questions or need any advice feel free to contact me.|||Well im not sure about those two towns in particular, but i know in the town my family is from they have VERY cheap beach efficiencies right on the beach, best bet to look up PR on craigslist according to what town you want to stay in, but don't forget to go to farjardo to see the waterfalls and the rain forests, and in case you didn't know in vieques they have glowing water! have fun!|||You may find better answers at Frommers.com and tripadvisor.com as they have a forum of frequent travelers at these places.
