My ex is planning a trip to Puerto Rico with our son and I will not be traveling with them this summer. Would they need to bring a letter from me with them?
Thank you!!!|||There shouldn't be a problem, since he is a parent. It's just like traveling between states.|||Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the U.S., hence, traveling to Puerto Rico is like traveling to any continental state, for example, visiting Texas or Florida. I would still recommend a letter consenting to emergency/surgical treatment for your child; the letter saves time, and perhaps a life. Chaos prevention is worth its weight in gold.|||If you are the primary care giver then yes. If something should happen to him (God forbid) then you need to give permission for him to receive treatment. If you put the date of their travel on it (ie July 31-Aug 8) then if they should be gone longer or go missing, then it helps you out in court.|||no not really if your traveling out of the us then yes but not to puerto rico. as long as hes his legal parent then no just his birth certificate or passport (but you dont necessarily need one) and the dads id|||You should have a letter of consent just in case your ex runs into any problems like a authorization for medical treatment although Puerto Rico does recognize parental rights no matter who actually has custody.
